Wellness Glossary
Oxygen & pressure therapies
Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)
Also known as: hyperbaric oxygen therapy, HBOT, pressurized oxygen therapy
A therapy in which you relax inside a pressurized chamber while breathing oxygen-enriched or ambient air. At lower pressures than medical hyperbaric therapy, mHBOT supports increased oxygen delivery throughout the body, promoting recovery, wellness, and overall vitality.
Ambient Air
The natural air in the surrounding environment, consisting of approximately 21% oxygen. In some mHBOT protocols, sessions may be performed using ambient air rather than supplemental oxygen, depending on individual goals.
Cold & temperature therapies
Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC)
Also known as: full body cryo, cryotherapy chamber, cold therapy
A treatment in which the body is briefly exposed to extremely cold air — often reaching temperatures as low as −285°F — for just a few minutes. This supports reduced inflammation, enhanced recovery, improved circulation, and overall wellness.
Sauna Therapy
A heat-based therapy that uses elevated temperatures to promote sweating, support detoxification, improve circulation, and encourage relaxation and recovery. Sessions typically last 15–30 minutes depending on comfort level.
Light therapies
Red Light & Near-Infrared Light Therapy
Also known as: photobiomodulation (PBM), NIR therapy, red light therapy
A non-invasive therapy that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and support cellular energy production. Helps reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, and enhance overall recovery and wellness.
Phototherapy
A non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to support biological processes in the body, helping to reduce inflammation, promote healing, and enhance overall wellness. Phototherapy is a broader category that includes multiple wavelengths and applications, including targeted localized treatments.
Localized Light Therapy
A targeted therapy using a portable red and near-infrared light device applied directly to specific areas of the body to support cellular function, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue repair in a focused zone.
Electromagnetic & electrical therapies
PEMF Therapy
Also known as: pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, electromagnetic therapy
A non-invasive therapy that uses low-frequency electromagnetic waves to stimulate cellular activity, supporting circulation, reducing inflammation, and promoting recovery and overall wellness. Most people feel a gentle pulsing or nothing at all during a session.
Localized PEMF Therapy
A targeted therapy using a pulsed electromagnetic field applied through a small pad to specific areas of the body, supporting circulation, reducing inflammation, and promoting localized recovery.
EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation)
A therapy that uses low-level electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contractions, helping to improve muscle strength, circulation, recovery, and neuromuscular function. Sessions produce a tingling or pulsing sensation that is adjustable and generally well-tolerated.
Relaxation & recovery
Float Therapy (Sensory Deprivation)
Also known as: flotation therapy, isolation tank therapy, REST therapy
A light- and sound-reduced tank filled with body-temperature Epsom salt water that allows you to float effortlessly. By minimizing external sensory input, float therapy promotes deep relaxation, stress reduction, improved focus, and mental clarity. The tank can be opened at any time.
Epsom Salt
A naturally occurring mineral compound of magnesium sulfate used in float tank sessions and baths to support effortless buoyancy, muscle relaxation, reduce soreness, and promote overall recovery and wellness.
Massage Chair Therapy
A relaxation modality that uses automated rollers, airbags, and vibration to simulate massage techniques, helping to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote overall relaxation and wellness.
Nutrition & infusion therapies
IV Nutrition Infusion Therapy
Also known as: IV vitamin therapy, IV drip, intravenous nutrient therapy
A treatment that delivers vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream through an intravenous line, allowing for rapid absorption. Supports hydration, energy, recovery, and overall wellness — bypassing the digestive system entirely for maximum bioavailability.
IM (Intramuscular Injection)
A method of delivering vitamins, minerals, or medications directly into muscle tissue for efficient absorption into the bloodstream. Used for targeted supplementation and overall wellness support.
IV & IM Add-Ons
Optional nutrients that can be included with IV infusions or IM injections to customize and enhance therapeutic benefits. Add-ons allow treatments to be tailored toward specific goals such as improved recovery, increased energy, enhanced detoxification, metabolic support, or immune function.
NAD+ Therapy
A specialized IV infusion delivering Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+), a coenzyme essential for cellular energy production, repair, and healthy aging.
Glutathione
A powerful antioxidant delivered via IV or IM that helps protect cells from oxidative stress, supports detoxification, and promotes overall cellular health.
Hydrogen Water
Water infused with molecular hydrogen (H2), which acts as an antioxidant and may help reduce oxidative stress, support cellular health, and enhance recovery.
Assessment & wellness concepts
Body Composition Analysis
Also known as: BodBody Analyzer, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA)
A device that uses bioelectrical impedance technology to measure body composition metrics including body fat percentage, muscle mass, hydration levels, and overall physiological balance — providing insight beyond what a standard scale can offer.
Biohacking
A wellness approach that involves using targeted lifestyle strategies, technologies, and therapies to optimize physical and mental performance, recovery, and overall health. Protocol stacking at Asclepius is a form of biohacking.
Protocol Stacking
The practice of combining multiple therapeutic modalities in a single visit or structured wellness plan. Certain treatments work synergistically — for example, HBOT following exercise, or red light therapy before cryotherapy — to amplify individual benefits beyond what each treatment offers alone.
